Been playing for a few hundred hours, own all the major DLC, and I still ignore some of the micro management options available. It's not super terrible to just play and learn as you go. Coming out of the Khan event I ended up in a federation, the Khan successor state left it immediately and closed borders to me, then I left it and the last member asked to be my vassal. One I've turned the big tap on for energy I'm going to go and beat people up. (Though I need to get a Dyson Sphere running before I can really use them in offensive wars.) So now I'm sitting on 10 star systems and double the fleet strength of anyone else in the galaxy, and because I'm a real boy not an AI it's all made of super degenerate instant-win battleship fleets. Got that turned on now and an Ecumenopolis to turn it into alloys. The other secret weapon is that black hole system, which came with a ruined matter decompressor. It was a hairy few years because of the -30% resource production whilst you're a satrapy but as soon as the Khan collapsed the mad economic scramble to cope with that put me into a massive positive becuase I wasn't paying the penalty any more, and I'd had time to tech up to endgame fleets. Another 50 corvettes and I would have done it (the Marauder fleets are super bad at dealing with corvette spam), but I had to surrender and wait for him to die off on his own (and I was super well protected again). I was *nearly* able to resist when they Khan'd up. Yeah, they just sit on their butts and beg for food unless they decide to become the Great Khan.īut the flipside is that nobody can get at you either, so I could ignore fleet and military technologies and spend nothing on ships for the first 100 years of the game (I'm also playing on 200% tech cost so the early game lasts longer, and having some sort of tech dependency before you can take off, habitats in this case, is a bit more serious). Stellaris plays almost like an RTS, but with a lot more depth. I've gone 30 years of PC gaming without getting into 4X - tried a few, but I was always more attracted to RTS, starting with the great Dune 2. The mechanics of the game seem fine, though ground invasion is weak - my Titans and Juggernaughts should be able to transport ground troops.įun game overall - very much enjoying the purchase. I was worried about an ancient/fallen empire with half a dozen 250K fleets, but they didn't become the crisis (I found the Head of Zarquon or something similar which meant they had to leave me alone.) A large but much, much weaker empire on the far side from me became the Crisis, and it's just a bit of drudgery to mop them up.Ī better UI would be awesome - now that I've got dozens of planets and stations, managing them is a pain. Need to up the difficulty a bit - I took Aspec's recommended 'first game' difficulty options, and it's been a cakewalk in the end game. Looking forward to applying this as soon as my first game is finished.
